MICAH BARNES, Vocalist/Composer/Recording Artist Born in Vienna, Austria to Classical-Composer Milton Barnes and C.B.C. Writer/Arts Journalist Lilly Barnes, Micah grew up in Toronto where his brother Drummer/Composer Daniel was born. The encouragement of their parents and contact with Jazz and Blues greats like Charles Mingus and Willie Dixon while growing up inspired both boys to take their music seriously. During high school the brothers began to perform together on the Jazz circuit as The Micah Barnes Trio with stints at popular night spots like Bobbins, Garbo's and Café Des Copains, performing original material that, "bridges the gap between Cole Porter and Elvis Costello",(The Globe and Mail), to packed houses before their cross-over into the Rock world as The Micah Barnes Band. Micah and Daniel quickly established themselves on the Queen Street scene as a top flight act, sharing stages with artists like Jane Siberry ,The Parachute Club, Holly Cole and Molly Johnson as well as being picked to open for touring international acts like Nik Kershaw and Natalie Cole at concert venues like Massey Hall and The Forum at Ontario Place. Their 8 piece band received much critical and popular support for their "inventive but accessible", (Toronto Sun), danceable sound. |

From 1989 till 1996 Micah toured and recorded as a member of the popular recording concert act The Nylons, replacing founding member Paul Cooper and taking over as lead Baritone. He made two records with the A Capella group, "Four On The Floor" and "Live To Love" which spawned the 1993 Juno-nominated hit "Don't Look Any Further" and garnered the group Urban Radio play in the US and a high rotation video on B.E.T. Micah was kept busy performing shows with Roberta Flack, Gladys Knight and The Spinners, Television appearances, including a PBS concert special and performances all over the world, including Asia, Europe, Australia and the US. Micah left the group in 1996 and moved to Venice Beach, California where he released his first solo recording, "LoudBoy Radio". This collection of hard hitting club-oriented tracks, created with N' Sync's producer Brad Daymond, won him a new fan base and the critic's praises in the US, ("Lyrically biting and musically invigorating",- Billboard), including a mention in Rolling Stone and other notable publications as an Indie-Pop artist worth watching for. The success of "Loudboy Radio" also lead to Micah's collaboration with remix-producers Thunderpuss,(Barry Harris and Chris Cox), on the white-label record "Welcome To My Head" which became one of 2003's run away international hits, garnering radio play in the UK and Europe, appearing on the year's hottest Dance compilations as well as winning license for NBC's hit show "Will and Grace" and reaching the number one spot on the Billboard charts. While touring the major American cities performing his club material throughout 2003/04, Micah kept up his chops by performing solo at the piano in hot spots like Les Deux Cafes in Hollywood and The Living Room in New York City. During long-running stints at The Derby and the Cavern Club Theatre in Los Angeles, Micah developed the Torchy Rock n' Roll material for the upcoming voice and piano record with ex-band mate Clint Yeager producing and the legendary Geza X. mixing the final tracks. |
